Linaclotide

(Linzess®) tablets

Linaclotide (Linzess®) is a laxative prescribed by doctors to treat constipation.

 

Linaclotide works by drawing extra water into your gut. This makes stool looser and easier to pass. Make sure you drink enough water when you take linaclotide.

How do I take this medicine?

This medicine works best when taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before your first meal of the day.

Take with a full glass of water, and swallow the capsule whole (do not chew, break, or crush).

What are the side effects?

The main side effect of this medication is diarrhea. It can also cause belly pain or gas. If you have severe belly pain, bloating or diarrhea, talk to your care team. They may suggest a different medication.
